One of my favorite things about Philly is there are not many 'corporate' restuarants in the city. It's refreshing! I love exploring the city and finding my very own 'local favorite'
Throughout this section on my blog I am going to share my Philly favorites, whether it's a restaurant, bar or market!
I live in Old City- Honestly, I love my apartment (and roommate) but I am not too fond of the neighborhood. Although, it's really starting to grow on me. The nightlife might not be my preference, but I am exploring and finding my niche in the neighborhood, Old City really has a few gems...
Franklin Fountain
Ice Cream
Location:
116 Market St.
After living in Old City for a year, I tried 'Franklin'. I'm not a huge ice cream fan, but my boyfriend's parents came to visit, tired it and raved about it. They said it was the best ice cream they ever had! Which makes sense, at any given time Franklin Fountain will have a line wrapped around the building. Best? Well I clearly have to see what the fuss was all about.
It's a bit pricey, but it really is amazing ice cream. Everything in the shop is homemade- even the whipped cream! I'm a huge fan of the 'college ice'- one scoop and one topping. I find that to be more than enough, overall the portions are enough for 3!
The other day I ventured from my usual college ice - vanilla and hot fudge and tried the Mt Vesuvious. Sounds huge? Well it is-
A mountain of CHOCOLATE or VANILLA ice cream ERUPTING with chocolate brownie pieces, CASCADING with hot fudge and BLANKETED in malt powder. A dollop of whipped cream indicates her smoking signal.
I usually do just vanilla, but the friendly person behind the counter let me have pumpkin and vanilla.
If your not really a fan of ice cream they have other treats as well: pies, juleps, malts and egg creams.
